The Story

Chris Fallows has spent decades working in some of Africa's most demanding wildlife environments. This 13-day expedition into Tanzania's Serengeti is built around that experience, limited to eight guests, with enough time in the field to go beyond the obvious shots.

The journey moves through three of Asilia's lodges: Usangu, Namiri, and Dunia. Each sits in a distinct part of the ecosystem, giving you access to different landscapes and concentrations of wildlife across the trip. Namiri is one of the Serengeti's best-kept secrets for big cat photography. Dunia, Africa's first female-run luxury camp, brings its own story alongside the wildlife.

The Serengeti's resident population of lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, and wildebeest provides the daily backdrop. Depending on timing, the Great Migration may be in motion, one of the most photographed spectacles on the continent, and one that still manages to exceed expectations in person.

Throughout, Chris leads photography masterclasses and works with guests individually in the field. The aim is to come home with images that reflect what you actually witnessed, not what every other safari produces.

Eight guests. Thirteen days. One of the most wildlife-dense ecosystems on Earth.

What Fuels Chris

“My goal is to tell the story of our planet’s icons.”

For Chris, photography is about revealing the behaviours that define life in the wild, many of which are rarely seen today.

Decades in the field have shown him that images create connection in a way few other things can. And that connection is what drives people to care, and ultimately, to protect.

Working alongside his wife Monique, Chris extends that commitment beyond photography, actively acquiring and protecting conservation land across Africa. The work doesn’t end when the camera is put down, it continues in the effort to ensure these stories can still be told in the future.

Day By Day

Your Itinerary

Day

1

Welcome to Kilimanjaro

Tanzania announces itself before the wheels touch down - the mountain visible on a clear day, the light already different.

A private transfer takes you from Kilimanjaro Airport to your hotel. That evening, meet Chris Fallows and the rest of the group over dinner. Chris will talk through his work - the images, the conservation projects, what keeps bringing him back to Africa - and what the next 12 days hold. It's a chance to ask everything before the bush takes over.

Day

2-5

Usangu Expedition Camp

An early start brings the group to the Usangu Wetlands inside Ruaha National Park - one of Tanzania's least-visited wild places, and one of its most extraordinary.

Usangu Expedition Camp sits beneath the miombo woodland canopy, beyond the high-water mark. For four nights, this is home. Days are spent in the park - game drives along the river and through forested terrain in search of big cats, elephants, giraffe, and the rarer sable and roan antelopes. On foot, the dry floodplains reveal a different kind of scale: the ecology of a place that most safari itineraries never reach.

Chris shoots alongside you throughout. Evenings are around the fire, with the park stretching out beyond the light.

Day

6-8

Dunia Camp, Central Serengeti

A private transfer to the airstrip, then a flight into the central Serengeti.

Dunia Camp is Africa's first and only all-women-operated camp - a genuinely pioneering place, and one that earns that description without needing to lean on it. Three nights in luxury tents, in the hands of a team that knows this landscape intimately.

The wildebeest herds move south through the central Serengeti at this time of year, tracking the rains toward the southern plains. The savannah turns green. Hundreds of migratory bird species arrive with the showers. The whole ecosystem shifts, and Chris is here to help you photograph it.

Day

9-11

Namiri Camp, Eastern Serengeti

The Eastern Serengeti is big cat country - the most concentrated predator habitat in the Serengeti ecosystem, and one of the least visited corners of the park.

Namiri Camp is the base. Three nights in an area where lions, cheetah, and leopard are a matter of patience rather than luck. The open plains support large herds of resident game, and the predators follow. Serval and caracal move through at the edges. Depending on timing, the Great Migration may push through - though the wildlife on these plains makes a case for itself regardless.

Chris is in the field with you every day.

Day

12-13

Goodbye Tanzania

A private flight back to Julius Nyerere International Airport.

The final night is at the Sheraton Dar es Salaam - the whole group together one last time. Chris leads a photo editing masterclass after dinner: working through the images from the trip, talking through what worked and why, and giving everyone a framework to take home. It's the kind of session that changes how you'll shoot from here.

Private transfers to the airport the following morning.

What is the positive impact contribution?

This trip is run in partnership with Asalia, an organisation that delivers direct benefits to local communities and wildlife. Every guest on this expedition contributes to that work - this trip with Chris Fallows will generate US$18,372 in direct community and conservation funding. It's built into how the camps operate, not an optional add-on.

What will we eat?

Local chefs prepare all meals on-site at each camp. Ingredients are sourced as locally as possible from surrounding communities. The menu is varied and fresh throughout the trip. Let the team know your dietary requirements before you arrive and they'll accommodate you.

What should I wear?

Neutral-coloured clothing works best in the Serengeti - avoid bright colours or white. Light synthetic hiking shoes are a practical choice as all-purpose safari footwear. One important note: small charter planes used for internal transfers have a 15kg (33lb) baggage limit, so pack accordingly.

What are the camp amenities like?

All three camps have solar power, hot showers and Wi-Fi. This is luxury tented accommodation - comfortable and well-equipped without being disconnected from the environment you're there to experience.

Who leads the trip?

Every Airguides expedition has two leaders: an Airguides trip elader who handles logistics and keeps everything running smoothly, and a storyteller guide - in this case Chris Fallows - who brings world-class wildlife photography expertise and deep field knowledge to every day on safari. Our storytellers are photographers, filmmakers, scientists and explorers - people who have dedicated their careers to understanding these places, and who share that perspective with guests throughout the trip.

Is there a single supplement for solo travellers?

Yes. Solo travellers can request a private room for an additional fee. We also offer a roommate pairing option on a limited, first-come-first-served basis. Contact us for details and availability.

Can I speak to someone about this trip or get help with flights?

Yes. Our team can help with flight options and travel routing. Call, text or WhatsApp us at +61 402 552 918. You'll speak directly with an Airguides team member who knows this trip inside out. We're here to help with any questions, big or small, from planning your adventure to arriving back home.

A truly unique experience that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

This experience is not for the faint of heart or someone who is looking for Instagram moments for clout. You are being given a unique opportunity to go to a place that will only be accessible to a handful of mere mortals.

To be in the presence of a unique visionary like Martin Gregus is truly a once in a lifetime.

Anne Prather, Fireweeds 2025

The Airguides trip to Tonga to swim with humpback whales was the experience of a lifetime. I have traveled all over the world, and nothing compares to being in the wild, rustic, deep blue waters of the South Pacific while interacting with whales and their calves. A wonderful and caring team made our adventures stress free.
